FAQs
Why does Faith Lutheran Church offer the FPU class? Offering FPU class is consistent with our vision and mission. Many people suffer with finances, and the FPU class is an opportunity for our church to reach OUT and equip one another. The class material is based on Biblical principles and helps us look UP to learn how God views money. As we meet together IN this small group we learn lessons and receive encouragement from each other.
How much does FPU cost? The class is offered for free. By signing up you can attend the class and receive access to additional perks from the Ramsey website.
Can my spouse/fiancée attend too? Yes. Why you register you will have the opportunity to input your spouses or fiancée’s information at the same time. Please do not sign up for separate registrations.
What is FPU? Financial Peace University (FPU) is a comprehensive financial education program. It includes a 9-week class developed by financial expert Dave Ramsey. The program is designed to help individuals and families achieve economic stability and independence by getting out of debt, planning for the future, and much more.
Why should I listen to Dave Ramsey? Dave Ramsey learned these principles the hard way and developed the financial principles taught in the FPU class. These principles were placed in a seven step program which has helped millions of people transform their lives.
What will I learn? The 9-session class is based on Dave Ramsey’s proven “Baby Steps” which are designed to eliminate debt, increase savings, and learn a financial mindset to use when making decisions about things like purchasing a home, purchasing insurance, investing, and giving.
I’m not in debt, why should I take the class? Congratulations for not being in debt! For people like you there are many things to learn regarding building a strong financial foundation by making proper financial decisions on insurance, investments, real estate, and giving. Establishing intentional long-term money habits can remove worrying and build confidence.
If I’ve taken FPU before, can I take it again? Yes, you can attend the class again for free, but will not receive some of the extra perks.
Is the class in person or on-line? Both types of classes are offered throughout the year. Check on the sign-up page.
What should I expect during a class? Classes vary, they may be in-person or on-line. A typical class will last between 1-2 hours. A typical class includes: a review of the previous class, watching a video, Q&A, and some homework for you to apply what you’ve learned throughout the week.
Do I have to share my personal finance details with anyone? No. You only share what you want to share. People can learn from each other’s experiences – both positive and negative ones. You will be encouraged to anonymously input the amount of your debt, your savings, and how many credit cards you have; but no one sees your personal information except you. All the participants information is added together and tracked by the class, so everyone can be encouraged by improvements made during the 9 weeks of class.
What happens after I register? You will receive a welcome email from our church FPU coordinator confirming your interest in the class. He will then sign you up through Faith Lutheran on the FPU website (to avoid you being charged) and you’ll receive an email prompting you to complete the registration process. Your class facilitator will then reach out to you regarding specifics for your class. You will receive your workbook at the first class.
Can I still sign up if I know I’ll miss a class? Yes. We hope that you can attend each class and enjoy the shared experiences of other participants. In the case where you do have to miss a class, you will be able to watch the video through your on-line account. You need to watch at least 8 of the 9 class videos to receive your certificate.
